AFG is proudly backing an important initiative to help end child poverty in Australia.
This initiative has special meaning to AFG’s chief financial officer, Luca Pietropiccolo, whose father Tony is leading the passionate team driving the campaign.
AFG as an organisation fully support’s this team’s work and has joined the End Child Poverty initiative, which calls on the Federal Government to:
- Legislate an end to child poverty
- Include children as a priority in the Measuring What Matters national wellbeing framework.
In Australia, one in six children – amounting to 761,000 – live below the poverty line. Many children too often go to school or bed hungry and miss out on essentials such as clothing, schooling items, and a safe place to sleep.
Poverty affects a child’s health, mental health, education and friendships, and can have a lasting impact on their lives. A child who lives in poverty is 3.3 times as likely to live in poverty as an adult. You can learn more about the initiative here: End Child Poverty.
